Nestled on a quiet corner, just back from busy Chapel street, the Windsor Deli is a local institution renowned for it's great coffee, freshly baked gluten free range, exciting breakfasts and gourmet sandwiches.
Taken over in 2012 by Simon Sheridan and his team, the super friendly cafe keeps the quirky charm of a local deli while quietly stepping up to Windsor's reputation as one of the best areas in Melbourne for great food and coffee.
The Deli prides itself on being a local meeting place with a friendly vibe. With long standing staff members including our manager Andrew, barista and talented artist Ellie and Chef Stef who are all part of the local community, there's always a focus on passionate service to make everyones visit an enjoyable and delicious part of the day.
Baked goods are where the Windsor Deli truly shines though, from freshly baked bread of all stripes to the renowned gluten free peanut butter choc-chip cookies. Be sure not to miss their newest creation, a three day, 5 times rolled, authentic buttery croissant that's to die for. Also get the Pain au Chocolate and Almond croissants on the weekends.
Chef Stef Juno gained much of her training in Pastry, Bakery and Culinary arts in her native New Zealand before embarking on a career which has taken her to the U.K before settling in Melbourne.
The Deli's sandwich range has previously won the coveted 'best sandwich in Melbourne' award with the Deli Club, so if you're looking for a lunch time take away and you're particularly hungry, it's a good place to start. Recent additions include the toasted pulled pork with jalapenos, caramelised onion and house-made chilli chutney, the roast lamb, baba ghanoush, harissa, onion and spinach and 24 hour marinated Jerk Chicken with an apple slaw and chipotle mayo.
Having lived amongst the good folk of Britain for 19 years Simon brought some of the old English classics back to life with a traditional corned beef hash, available all year round and the Deli scotch eggs that are always raising an eyebrow. It's also true that Lizzy Windsor, yes, the Queen of England, can be found at the Deli waving to the locals from the window.
Also catering for functions and events, drop by for a chat and you'll find the staff very accommodating to any requests you might have. From small business meetings to large conferences the Windsor has a solution to offer that will be on time, every time.
